A proper country pub at the heart of village life.
Find us in the beautiful village of Pirton, nestled in the countryside just outside Hitchin.
In the Hertfordshire village of Pirton, you'll find our hidden gem of an old country pub - The Fox.
Tastefully refurbished a few years ago, you'll find everything that makes a great british pub - the roaring fire, the real ales, the worn oak floors and the pub garden overlooking the church.
Whether you're walking in from the countryside, meeting friends for the evening, or just stopping by for a well-kept pint, you'll always find a warm welcome here.
Some places hold time differently.
There were farmers here, pulling off boots after harvest, settling beside the fire. Huntsmen gathered outside, hounds milling at their feet, breath rising in the winter air. Labourers came in from the fields at dusk, and stayed longer than they meant to. Sweethearts met. News was shared - of wars ending, of kings changing. Yet the ale stayed cold and the fire stayed warm.
The names above the door have changed. The barrels have changed. The faces have slowly changed. But the instinct that draws people here has not – that oldest human impulse to come in from the cold, sit among others and feel, for an hour or two, that everything is exactly as it should be.
The Fox has been that place for this village for generations. We intend to keep it that way.
We take real pride in our cask ales.
Expect a rotating selection of well-kept local guests alongside firm favourites from great British breweries.
Also enjoy our excellent wine list and fully stocked back bar of spirits, soft drinks and low-alcohol options.
Your four-legged friends are as welcome here as you are.
They love it here, but not just because they know we keep the treats behind the bar!
We look forward to seeing you soon for a pint or two.
